Our model of care

Therapeutic practice, embedded in everyday life

Our model brings together evidence-backed approaches that help children feel safe, understood and able to make positive change.

01
Trauma-Informed Care
Every child has a unique story. Many of the young people we support have experienced trauma, disruption or loss that continues to influence how they think, feel and respond to the world around them. Our trauma-informed approach recognises these experiences and focuses on creating environments where children feel physically and emotionally safe. Rather than asking "What's wrong with you?", we seek to understand "What has happened to you?" This understanding enables us to build trusting relationships that support healing, emotional regulation and long-term positive outcomes.
02
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
At Amberley, we recognise that behaviour is a form of communication. Positive Behaviour Support helps us understand the underlying reasons behind behaviours of concern and develop proactive, individualised strategies that improve quality of life. Working alongside multidisciplinary professionals where appropriate, we reduce the need for restrictive practices by promoting positive relationships, developing coping strategies and celebrating progress, no matter how small.
03
Therapeutic Parenting
Our teams provide consistent, nurturing care built around empathy, patience and emotional connection. Therapeutic parenting recognises that many children require experiences that help rebuild trust and attachment. Through predictable routines, unconditional positive regard and co-regulation, we help children develop emotional resilience, confidence and healthy relationships.
04
PACE
PACE stands for Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy – and is embedded throughout our daily practice. This evidence backed approach helps our teams build trusting relationships while supporting children to feel understood rather than judged. By responding with curiosity instead of confrontation, we encourage emotional growth, strengthen attachment and create opportunities for meaningful conversations that support healing.
05
Restorative Practice
We believe mistakes should become opportunities for learning rather than punishment. Restorative Practice encourages accountability, empathy and relationship repair through respectful conversations that help children understand the impact of their actions. This approach promotes resilience, reduces conflict and supports positive behavioural change while maintaining strong, trusting relationships.
06
Solution-Focused Practice
Rather than concentrating solely on difficulties, we work collaboratively with children to identify strengths, celebrate achievements and build practical solutions for the future. By recognising progress and setting realistic goals, we empower young people to develop confidence, resilience and a belief in their own abilities.
07
Attachment-Informed Care
Strong, healthy relationships provide the foundation for positive childhood development. Our attachment-informed approach helps children develop secure, trusting relationships through consistent care, emotional availability and responsive support. Understanding attachment needs enables our teams to respond with sensitivity while helping children build confidence, self-worth and emotional security.
